Only on I-5 in California... |

A fireworks stand at a gas station, sponsored by a Christian school. The only thing that could
have made this photo funnier was if the scary three-toothed pump attendant was present. |

BNSF 5439 West leans into the 3-degree curve shortly after crossing the Wind River. |

 |
- Pacing each other westward on opposite banks of the Columbia River are a UP manifest (right)
and a BNSF coal train.
- BNSF 8210 West pops out of Woldson's Tunnel and approaches Anderson's Tunnel, from above which
I captured this photo.

Hugging the north bank of the Columbia River, BNSF 8210 West rolls towards Collins, WA.
Unfortunately, I was trying for the perfect shot, and didn't appreciate how quickly the cloud's
shadow was moving. |

After shooting BNSF 8210 West, we returned eastward and went on a spirited chase of Amtrak
No. 28, the eastbound Portland section of the Empire Builder. This out-the-window shot
was captured at Horsethief Lake, showing us pacing Amtrak and overtaking an eastbound UP freight
across the Columbia. The white thing is a roadside reflector.

- From an overlook alongside WA 14, an eastbound UP manifest is seen about to duck under I-84.
- A couple minutes later (and with a longer focal length), the manifest crosses the mouth of the
Deschutes River.

 |
From the same overlook as the above pair of photos, Amtrak train 28, the eastbound Portland
section of the Empire Builder, leaves Wishram and approaches the west portal of Tunnel 12.
The main channel of the Columbia River flows on the other side of Miller Island. |
