Colgate, MT BNSF 8943 East leads a loaded coal train through beautiful badlands as it follows the Yellowstone River upstream towards Glendive.

Fryburg, ND While heading east on I-94, I spotted an eastbound coal train, so we got off at the Fryburg exit to take a look. Not only did we find a matched set of EMD Leasing SD60s (led by class unit 9000, no less!), but the dispatcher had just lined a westbound into the siding!

Fryburg, ND BNSF 9491 West got its track warrant and started moving; Lou and I got our shots and jumped back in the car to try to find a big, sweeping curve I'd spotted from the highway and located on the map.

Sully Springs, ND We arrived at Sully Springs with barely enough time to run across a sandy wasteland and climb a small hill to capture this shot. Unfortunately, due to my poor choice of footwear, I ended up with a ton of small cactus needles in my feet, but the resulting photo was well worth the discomfort.

Medora, ND This last grab shot was obtained in Medora, literally by leaning out the car window.

Salem, ND We spotted this monstrosity from the interstate and had to get a closer look. The monument reads:

SALEM SUE
The World's Largest Holstein Cow
is 38 feet hight, 50 feet long,
and weighs 12,000 pounds.
