Banff, AB The Bow River, seen here a short distance west of Banff, is the most colorful body of water I've ever seen, ranging in tone from a deep aquamarine near the shores to brown-maroon in the main channel. The rest of the scenery is obviously no less spectacular.

Lake Louise, AB CP 9574 East approaches the bridge over the rushing Pipestone River, coming off the original grade over Kicking Horse Pass.

Wapta Lake, BC CP 9596 East is on the point of an intermodal train as it starts to pick up speed at the summit of Kicking Horse Pass.

Divide, AB Railfanning in the vicinity of the "Divide" control point is wonderfully easy: All three of these shots were taken from the shoulder of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Redcliff, AB
Late in the afternoon, approaching Redcliff, Lou spotted a westbound manifest. After successfully capturing a grab shot on the outskirts of town, we chased the train west for about 10 minutes, getting two more shots before we decided to resume our eastward trek.

Dunmore, AB Approaching Dunmore, we spotted an eastbound coal train coming off the Taber Sub onto the Maple Creek Sub, and we attempted to photograph it at a bridge over the tracks. However, when our initial effort failed, we discovered a series of dirt trails that roughly paralleled the tracks, and we were able to beat the train to this spot.
