At the recommendation of a work associate, I headed up to Meadowdale Park and Norma Beach to
scout out photo opportunities...

Looking north across Norma Beach towards Picnic Point, I captured this view of the M-EVEANB2-18A
heading west (compass south) towards Seattle. |

As the manifest was passing me, I heard a roar heading east on the other track; moments later,
I shot local R-NWE8321-19I returning to Everett.
I wasn't all that excited about the opportunities available here, so I made the mile hike back to
the parking lot and headed up to Picnic Point, intending to arrive before No. 8. |

Upon reaching the pedestrian bridge over the tracks at Picnic Point, I saw a westbound
rounding the next point to the north and heard a blowing to the south. I quickly set up
for and captured this view of the M-EVEPAS2-19D. |

Amtrak No. 8, the Seattle section of the Empire Builder, rolls along Norma Beach
as it heads for its next stop at Everett. |

Amtrak slipped through the short stretch of single track between MP 27 and MP 28 just ahead
of a westbound BNSF train. Ten minutes after No. 8's passage, S-LPCTAC1-16A cruises towards
Seattle under beautiful late-evening golden light. Since I'm writing this entry on December 31st,
I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite photos from this year. |

The other half of the booming intermodal business at the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma: The
container ship Zim
Asia has just departed Seattle and is heading towards the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Pacific Ocean,
bound for its next port call at Pusan, South Korea. |

With the sun just about to slip below the peaks of the Olympic Mountains, Amtrak Cascades
No. 516 rushes towards Everett. |
